Winslet weaves a web following
A member since day one
Sarah Packard, a 21-year old college student from Ann Arbor, Michigan, says that she's been a member of the "Kate on-line fan community from day one, pretty much."
Her website, or Shrine to Kate Winslet, reflects a level of commitment she feels many of the actress's fans feel towards her. "Kate fans have always been very devoted and enthusiastic about her," she says. "I think because we identify with and like Kate as a person, and see her as a positive role model as well as an incredibly talented actress."
The site has no picture gallery, something unique for a fan-site, but what it does have is interesting, insightful writing, links to things like Kate's "Titanic Diary," lots of quotes, and lots of articles, reviews, and other material gleaned from elsewhere on the Internet. Sarah cheerfully admits that she still can't do anything too fancy, despite having started her web sites in 1995, saying, "It's much more about the content than the design for me. I just like to write, that's all."
Although she admires Kate Winslet and has a fan-site, that is by no means her only interest. She's heavily into Abba music, unicorns, mermaids, singing and Rainbow Brite. She's just a normal, everyday girl who happens to like a particular actress, and decided to channel her creative energies into making a web page for her.
